Today’s Bike Ride

Map for the day
Distance: 9.1 miles on bike and 1.03 miles walking…
My intent, when I started today’s ride was a 20 to 25 mile ride to the east side of ABQ and back around. All of this starting at noon when it was high 80’s….
I got ready, filled up the tires and took note that the back tires are pretty much just racing slicks anymore and started out.
North on the Bosque Trail to Paseo del Norte, then just for fun, took Rio Grande to see how far it went – DUH! to Alameda. Started up to the Hahn Arroyo and…
Flat Tire.
This is the FIRST flat tire I have had in some 20 years. Most people don’t believe me when I say that as apparently ‘everyone else’ has flat tires on a weekly/daily basis. I used to carry a spare tube with me but it weighs a lot so I stopped carrying it. Also, with my track record, it seemed unlikely — or — would it have been more prudent since I had NOT had one…. Hmmmmm.
Either way, I tried pumping it back up and the valve stem ripped off so I was hosed. Luckily my sister was home and she met me by the train station and brought me back home.
Not quite the day I had planned for and this definitely puts Monday’s bike ride in limbo as I don’t know if I can find a tube or know if I can change the tube and tire myself. We’ll have to see!

Today’s Bike Ride

Map for the day
Distance: 13.00 miles
Back in ABQ and just wanted to go out. It’s still hot…
I had wanted to see if the new bridge from Coors down to the Bosque Trail was open – it wasn’t. I went on and made my 12 mile loop with a brief stop at my friend Kathy’s garage sale. It was good to see her and her family too. Of all the garage sales that I passed, theirs had the most shoppers. It was a nice trip although I had to cut it short so I could go to work at Direct Buy…

UGH! The heat! I was waiting for some worker-people to arrive and while waiting, decided to mow the grass. After that, I started on the bike at about 11 – it was ALREADY too hot – about 94 degrees. It was ugly. I think I have an old post that 92 is about the warmest that I still ‘enjoy’ riding in. The starting temperature is about 55. Today was brutal and I wasn’t even doing any hills.
I’m getting ready for our upcoming walkabout the East Coast and need all the cardio I can muster to get ready.
That was the only point of this trip. No cool pictures. No cool stories.
The funniest part was that I was wearing my yardwork/cowboy hat for the ride. I bet I looked funny! 🙂

Today’s Bike Ride

Map for the day
Distance: 13.82 miles
This weekend it is supposed to get over 100 every day – Friday 100, Saturday 102, Sunday 103. If it’s going to be this hot in June – imagine what August will be like? Ick.
I hopped on the bike around 7:45 am to beat the heat and had no idea on which way to go. I started out and… ended up going south on the Bosque Trail down towards the factory and back around. It was wonderful.
Coolest thing on the ride was a coyote crossing the bike path with a squirrel in his mouth! I wish I had the bike cam on! Lots of riders were out for the Albuquerque Century ride. As I went to work later, I felt sorry for them as it was almost 100 degrees by then. Happy I was not one of them…
Here’s some shots from the ride. The last photo I’m not sure if that’s a crane or not, but he was happy eating some minnows that were supposed to have been ‘saved’ with this little area he was in.
