Haven’t see any little critters – or evidence…. I had called this war earlier. Maybe another day?

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween
I think that I used to get more excited about Halloween – more than my kids do. I always was planning on a Haunted House that we would make in the garage and let all the neighborhood kids go through. That was fun!

Mouse Wars – Round 8

Mouse Wars

Today: Running Total:
Another one last night. I turned on the light and the little bugger just sat there – NOT on a trap. Just sat there and looked at me. Caught him, threw him over the fence…

Food Servers and Tipping

We all got to see Mick and have dinner with him last night. Not that I we get out a lot, but my last two dining experiences have had the WORST service possible. As a former food service industry person – I know how to appreciate what they do. I’m a good tipper when service is good and I’m a great tipper when service is superb. In my eyes, adequate service warrants 15%, good service a bit more and excellent can warrant 20% to 25% depending on my moods.
This girl last night just sucked as a food server. I’m used to the normal issues – first time as a server, kitchen issues, hostess issues (seating several tables at once), etc. This girl just had a bad attitude and should have just gone home. If you are having a bad day, there’s nothing wrong with just admitting it to everyone and hope for pitty tips. But to continue with poor service – and I promise she was aware of it – is inexcusable. Ten bucks on $75.00 AND I should have told a manager.
Last week we went out to an old Downtown staple and you could just tell that it was going to be slow. This was a career food server. This normally would be a good thing but this lady should have retired ten years ago. Now she is just a jaded, cranky, lady. She would make it out from the kitchen, where she would obviously be outside smoking because every time she came out from the back, she reeked of ciggies. I’m not an adamant non-smoker, but this lady obviously has nicotine issues to the point that she could not even do her job. She made it out to the tables (she only had three) maybe every ten minutes. God forbid that you actually needed something – like ice tea, water, a knife…. The table across from us was kind of laughing about it all as they had ordered some dessert but she forgot it and did not return for her normal ten minutes and by then they were wanting to leave. She said she’d get the cake that the guy wanted – yup, ten minutes later. They asked for her their bill, ten more minutes. The kids were tired by the end of dinner – almost 90 minutes and we still had to walk back to the car. I got up to find the server and ALL of the employees were not even in the building. Two servers, a busperson, and two kitchen workers were not even in the building – I went back to the kitchen area and hollered – nobody answered. Our server came out finally and gave us the bill and tried to leave it on the table without taking my credit card that I had already had ready for her. I physically stopped her with a clothesline move to get her to take it. Running the card took less than a minute!
What happened to good service?

We had dinner with Mick last night – good to see him again. He’s got a lot of stuff going on and it’s good to hear his stories. I wish he came through town more often.
Stomache isn’t feeling too good last night/this morning – I hope that passes.
Alice Cooper is in town tonight, I may stop by to catch a few songs.
A lot of work to do today…

This sounds like it will be a busy week again. A crazy amount of stuff to get done – plus Halloween, plus a couple of visits and I really need to connect with some old friends that I have not spoken to in quite some time. I think Mick is coming back in town tonight – must remember to call him.

Mouse Wars – Round 6

Mouse Wars

Today: Running Total:
This is the last day of this. Nothing in the traps. Yesterday, while cleaning out behind all the appliances and in all the cupboards, guess what I found? A little guy, alive – albeit, not very peppy. I could have just picked him up in my hand. I just put a glass over him and subscribed to the ‘catch and release’ program for prisoner’s of war. I think I’m calling off the War.
Nobody won.
